With great joy and deep gratitude to God, we want to share Thelma Morán's beautiful testimony of faith. Her story reminds us of the importance of trusting God and persevering in prayer, even in moments of uncertainty.

Some time ago, Thelma faced and overcame cancer. Recently, a new concern entered her life when a medical examination revealed a cyst in her neck.

Faced with this situation, Thelma once again chose to place her trust in God. That Sunday, she attended Mass and, after the 6:00 p.m. celebration, remained in the church for the exposition of the Blessed Sacrament and the healing prayer offered each Sunday especially for those who are ill. With a heart full of faith, she placed this concern in the Lord's hands and prayed for strength, healing, and that His will be done.

On Wednesday, September 16, at 8:00 a.m., Thelma underwent a CT scan as part of the medical follow-up for the cyst that had previously been found.

After the study, Thelma received the joyful news that the cyst in her neck was no longer visible on the CT scan.

For Thelma, this moment represents a profound experience of faith, hope, and gratitude to God.

Her testimony reminds us that even when we face moments of uncertainty, we can approach the Lord with confidence, persevere in prayer, and place our needs in His hands.

We give thanks to God for this beautiful testimony of faith and hope, and for allowing us to witness His love and mercy.

As a community, we continue to pray for all who are facing illness, a difficult diagnosis, or a situation that seems to have no solution. May we never lack the faith to turn to the Lord, the hope to keep moving forward, and the love to accompany one another in prayer.

Lord, increase our faith, strengthen our hope, and accompany all those who need You. Grant them comfort, strength, and, if it is Your will, the grace of healing. Amen.

It all began when Jerry wrote to ask me to pray for his friend Servando Ramírez.

“Hello, brother. Can you pray for my friend Servando Ramírez? He collapsed and is vomiting blood. He has ulcers, and one of them may be cancerous. Tomorrow they will run tests again.”

Servando had been sent home while he waited for his test results, but the results never arrived. Uncertainty and concern were present. Jerry even mentioned that, if necessary, Servando might need to seek a second opinion.

Then I replied:

“Better yet: have him go to Mass with Father Toby on Sunday.”

And that is what they did.

Before learning the final results, however, the family had received news that seemed devastating. His wife shared:

“The doctor looked him directly in the eyes and said, ‘It is cancer, but we need to see what stage it is in because it appears to have been there for a long time.’”

When facing news like this, it is difficult to explain what a family may feel: fear, uncertainty, and concern about what may come.

On Sunday, however, Servando and his family attended the healing Mass. For them, it was a very special experience—one of those experiences that leaves a mark on the heart.

Then came news that filled everyone with hope:

Servando’s results were negative.

His wife then wrote to Jerry:

“Jerry, it has to be a miracle. We went to the healing Mass on Sunday, and it was an experience we will never forget. I know in my heart that God healed him. We are so relieved!”

For us, this moment became a testimony of faith, prayer, and hope.

We cannot medically explain everything that happened without knowing all the tests and diagnoses. We can, however, recognize what this experience meant to Servando and his family: in the midst of fear, they sought God, attended the healing Mass, and kept hope alive.

Today, they can give thanks.

God hears our prayers. God sustains our hope. And when we receive a blessing, our response should always be: “Thank you, Lord.”

May this testimony remind us never to lose faith, especially when circumstances seem to tell us otherwise.
